Abstract

This study investigates the mental health status of postgraduate students at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong. The research aims to identify the prevalence of mental health issues, compare mental health across various demographics (gender, community, caste, locality, age), and suggest innovative strategies to enhance the mental well-being of students.

Findings reveal that a significant portion of NEHU postgraduate students are experiencing mental health challenges, with anxiety, depression, and stress being prevalent. Factors such as gender, community, caste, locality, and age influence mental health outcomes. The study emphasizes the urgent need for comprehensive mental health support services at NEHU, including counselling, workshops, and accessible healthcare resources. Implementing proactive measures to address mental health can create a more conducive learning environment, improve academic performance, and enhance the overall well-being of NEHU postgraduate students.
