Development is happening at a good rate in the global era. Rivers that traverse multiple territories, such as the Nile and Mekong, raise questions over their use for varied reasons. The other state will have a deficit if one state uses the river to its fullest extent. These will intensify the conflict over the river. In certain situations, a specific international law treaty must regulate the state.
The authors of this paper have attempted to examine the current treaty framework for transborder projects on international rivers, the problems that come up when projects are built on international rivers, and the recommendations for striking a balance between the development and protection of rights in the area of use of rivers. The information which is in the public domain has been analyzed by the authors. The authors of this paper have concentrated on drawing attention to the shortcomings in international law and have provided important recommendations about the issue.
